Cupping
Cupping is a technique practitioners may use in order to reduce pain in certain parts of the body. Cups which sometimes filled with smoke are placed on the area of pain. Suction is created in order to move stagnation of energy or blood stasis in the area.
Moxibustion
Moxa is an Artemis herb formed into a roll, which is burned to form heat, and placed over an acupuncture point or area of the body in order to promote the movement of energy, reduce inflammation. and to warm the area. The moxa is applied at intervals so as to not burn the patient. Sometimes moxa may be bundled and placed directly onto the needle to provide heat to the point or meridian.
Bleeding
There are special needles used to bleed a point. This is used in some case to reduce inflammation and blood stagnation in an area on the body.
Nutrition
Foods are an important aspect of Chinese therapies. There are particular foods that promote the strengthening and balancing of body organs and their functions. By eating certain foods at specific times of the year, stresses on the body can be eliminated and the body will be better prepared to deal with the elements due to changes in climate or season.
Exercise
Qi gong and Tai chi are different forms of slow- moving exercises. By performing different positions and movements, one can actually activate and strengthen the meridians and the flow of chi in the body. These exercises serve as a preventative measure for many common illnesses.
